Frugal Reading List for 2017

I've been putting in some serious thought about my reading goals this year.  In the past, I typically flip flop fiction and non fiction books at will and try to read 12-20 books a year.  Frugal me decided to create a better approach and actually invest in my home library while accomplishing my reading goals.

This year I want to avoid the library as my main source of books and actually buy books that I want in my house library.  I'm picky about what I add to my bookshelf and only want books that I would feel comfortable having my grandchildren read.  Here's my list and on the frugal side of it, I was able to purchase all books for less than $50.  I either picked them up for free on the Kindle or used my credits on paperbookswap.com

 After typing this up, I am even more impressed that I get to read all of this for under $50 and all of these books are a great investment.  For those of you that know me will be wondering where is the sci-fi at?  What about non-fiction and biographies?  I am sure I will keep reading them this year but I'm not sure I really want to invest in sci-fi for my home library and I have tons of it on my Kindle.  As far as non-fiction goes, I just don't know what direction this year will take me.  I am currently researching three different but related topics (PizzaGate, Liberal Politics and Body Language) and I have not found any books I really want to buy.

All I Want To Do Is Read More - 2017

Once again I have been absent from this blog.  Some not serious health issues have kept me from enjoying life.  I'm still not back to normal but getting closer.  All this down time has given me time to contemplate life and what I would like to see different in 2017.

I just want to open up a honest to goodness book and read more.  Before we had wi-fi in our home and smart phones I would read 4-5 books a month, now I am only reading 4-5 a year.  Part of my recovery is to rest and to truly rest I need to turn off the screens and open those books.

 Currently I am reading three books.  Dune - yep still reading it.  The Circle Trilogy by Ted Dekker and a Janette Oke book on my kindle.  I would like to get back into the classics, especially Dickens and the Poirot mysteries by Agatha Christie.

Here's to 2017 and getting back to the basics.

My Frugal Reading List for September

Ahhhh, I love reading books in the Fall season.   Blustery winds and rainy days make it easy to curl up with a book and eat everything pumpkin flavored.

My new read aloud book with Stormy is On the Banks of Plum Creek by Laura Ingalls Wilder.  We just finished Little House on the Prairie and are moving on through the series.

I am still reading Dune by Frank Hebert.  Almost to the halfway mark and still enjoying it very much.  Before bed I am reading Grace in Africa by Kay Marshall Strom.  My book is actually on the Kindle that I downloaded free.  So far I am enjoying it as a guilty pleasure romance read, set in the time of the African slave trade.  I finished Trance-formation of America and have not chosen a new non-fiction book yet.

If I can finish up these two books this month I will be satisfied.  Next month is soon enough to pick out something more educational.

My Frugal Reading List for August

I think sitting down and reading a book is becoming a lost skill. Personally I find myself falling into the easy habit of watching videos or listening to a book on tape.  Nothing at all wrong with that but nothing beats opening up a book and losing yourself in a story.

My goal through the busy summer is to read a book each month.  Winters are made for reading and I like to read a book a week huddle under a warm blanket.  Here's what I've been reading this month.  I do like to have several books going at once including a classic, a fiction and non-fiction choice and a read aloud to Stormy.

The classic book I am reading right now is also my fiction choice. Dune by Frank Herbert.
It's been twenty years since my last attempt to read this book.  The movie just ruined it for me.  I must say that I am quite enjoying the read as long as I block out all images of the movie.  

My non-fiction choice is Trance-formation of America by Cathy O'Brien.  I have been wanting to read it since I watched her YouTube videos.  I snagged it up on my Kindle when it went on sale for $8.00  This book is not for the faint hearted.  It covers her tragic life as a MK Ultra slave.  You can read many of my earlier posts about my research into MK Ultra mind control and just how corrupt our government is.  In her book she tells all about her encounters with the Presidents Ford, Reagan, Bush and Clinton as well as many entertainers especially in the country music realm.   Please know that this book contains material dealing with child sexual abuse and satanic ritual abuse.  Be aware that it is explicit.

My read aloud with Stormy is Little House on the Prairie by Laura Ingalls Wilder.  Still a favorite of mine and always will be.

I've been very frugal lately with buying books.  With the exception of the Kindle book, I haven't bought a book for months and I don't plan to.  My next set of books are already on my shelf.  Go frugal me!
